Middleton Center Spring Symposium
Each spring, the Middleton Center invites a renowned speaker
to address issues of spiritual and psychological
interest. The Symposium is open to all church members and to
the broader community.

Resilient Life:
Ellie Stratton, Spiritual Director at the Middleton
Center will lead 2 classes on the work of Dr. Wicks on March 6 and 13.

Dr. Robert Wicks
Dr.
Robert Wicks, who received his Doctorate in Psychology from
Hahnemann Medical College and Hospital, is a professor at
Loyola University Maryland. He has taught in universities
and professional schools of psychology, medicine, nursing,
theology, and social work. His major area of expertise is
the prevention of secondary stress (the pressures
encountered in reaching out to others.) In his clinical
practice, Dr. Wicks focuses on working with
psychotherapists, physicians, nurses, educators, relief
workers, lawyers, corporate executives and persons in
full-time ministry.
Dr. Wicks has published over
40 books for both professionals and the general public.

One of his latest works is
entitled Riding the Dragon. About it, Jack Kornfield,
author of A Path with Heart said, “Like a good
friend’s support in tough times, this book is both
compassionate and wise.”
His most recent books for
professionals, Overcoming Secondary Stress in Medical and
Nursing Practice and The Resilient Clinician have
both been published by Oxford University Press.
His new book for the general
public is: Bounce: Living the Resilient Life.
In 2006, Dr. Wicks received
the first annual Alumni Award for Excellence in Professional
Psychology from Widener University and is also the recipient
of the Humanitarian of the Year Award from the American
Counseling Association’s Division on Ethics and Values.
